Forty-five people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours (till 8am today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The total number of deaths has now reached 8,949 and the death rate stands at 1.49 percent.
At least 5,181 new infections were recorded in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 6,00,895, added the release.
This is the highest number of new infections recorded in a single day in Bangladesh since the first cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the country on March 8, 2020.
The previous highest number of new daily cases was 4,019, recorded on July 2, 2020.
The current positivity rate is 18.38 percent, while the total positivity rate stands at 13.01 percent.
A total of 28,195 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8 am today).
At least 2,077 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.
The total number of recoveries now stands at 5,38,018 and the recovery rate at 89.94 percent.
Among the 45 deceased, 30 were men, and 15 were women. Of them, one was between 21-30 years old, five were between 31-40, four within 41-50, eight between 51-60, and 27 were above 60 years old, added the release.
