Fifty-two people have died from Covid-19 during 24 hours (till 8am today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
This is the highest number of deaths recorded during the span of a day in more than seven months. The number was 54 on August 26, 2020.
With this the total number of deaths reaches 9,046. The death rate stands at 1.48 percent.
At least 5,358 new infections were recorded in the meantime, taking the total number of people infected to 6,11,295, added the release.
This is the highest number of infections recorded in a day so far in the country. Just two days ago, till March 29, 2021, the highest number of infection in a day was 5,181.
The number of new cases in day crossed 5,000 today for the third consecutive day.
The current positivity rate is 19.90 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.09 percent.
A total of 26,931 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8am today).
At least 2,219 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.
The total number of recoveries now stands at 5,42,399 and the recovery rate at 88.73 percent.
Among the 52 deceased, 38 were men and 14 women while one was between 21-30 years old, five within 31-40, eight between 41-50, eight within 51-60 and 30 were above 60 years old, added the release.
