The National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) on Covid-19 urged the government to revise its decision to ease lockdown from Wednesday.

“The committee thinks that the government hurriedly relaxed the restrictions. Due to the decision, the infection may increase again which may create more threats to the economy,” said a press release signed by Dr Mohammad Shahidullah, president of the NTAC issued on Friday night.

If the lockdown could continue for another 1-2 weeks, the benefits of the prior lockdown could be fully reaped, read the press release.

The NTAC recommended keeping meetings, gatherings, social events, tourism spots, and community centres close for a few more days.

They also opined to operate public transports at 50 percent capacity.

The committee recommended starting classes of the second year and final year’s medical students maintaining health safety protocols.
