5,042 infected, 2,162 recover in 24 hours

Forty-five people have died from Covid-19 during 24 hours — for the second consecutive day — today (till 8am), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). 

The total number of deaths has now reached 8,994 and the death rate stands at 1.48 percent.

At least 5,042 new infections were recorded in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 6,05,937, added the release.

The number of new cases in the span of a day crossed 5,000 today, also for the second consecutive day.

The current positivity rate is 18.94 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.05 percent.

A total of 26,620 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8am today).

At least 2,162 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 5,40,180 and the recovery rate at 89.15 percent.

Among the 45 deceased, 28 were men and 17 women while one was under 10-year-old, two between 21-30 years old, two within 31-40, seven between 41-50, eight within 51-60 and 25 were above 60 years old, added the release.
