Two hundred and twenty people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours (till 8 am today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With this, the total number of deaths reached 16,639, and the death rate stands at 1.61 percent.

At least 13,768 new infections were recorded in the meantime, taking the total number of people infected to 10,34,957, added the release. The infection number is the highest since the Covid-19 pandemic began in the country.

The current positivity rate is 31.24 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 14.75 percent.

A total of 44,067 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8 am today).
