Bangladesh confirmed 26 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The country’s death toll from the virus now stands at 5,219 said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). In the last 24 hours, 1,488 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 3,62,043.

Of the dead patients, 21 were men and five were women. Moreover, 16 of them hailed from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, two each from Khula and Sylhet, and one from Rajshahi division.

Twenty-five of them have died in different hospitals and one at his respective residence. The gender breakdown of Covid-19’s victims shows that 77.39 percent or 4,039 of the total were men, and 22.61 percent or 1,180 were women.

While talking about district-wise fatalities, 2,607 hailed from Dhaka division, 1,073 from Chattogram, 435 from Khulna, 341 from Rajshahi, 237 from Rangpur, 230 from Sylhet, 187 from Barishal, and 109 from Mymensingh district. According to the age group analysis of Covid-19 victims, as of Thursday, the majority of patients that died – 2,653 or 50.83 percent – were aged sixty and above.

The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with, respectively, 1,409 and 675 people. The rest of the people are within the age group of 31-40 with 297 people, 21-30 with 119, 11-20 with 42 people and under ten with 24 people. However, a total of 1,625 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 273,698.

Some 12,769 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 12,869 were tested in 106 labs across the country. So far 1,934,251 samples have been tested. Around 75.60 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.44 percent have died.

The latest day’s infection rate was 11.56 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 18.72 percent. Currently, 43,846 people are quarantined across the country – including 716 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 488,555 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities placed 218 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 15,252 after 65,890 left. As many as 21,174,376 hotline health services were given by trained and volunteer doctors via three designated numbers (16263, 333, and 10655) , including 7,563 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.

Via the telemedicine service, everyday a total of 100 doctors and health officils in two shifts are providing Covid-19 advice, that has been availed by 408,711 people till date including 4,510 in the last 24 hours. There are 11,635 general beds available in the country for Covid-19 treatment where 2,629 people are already admitted, and 9,006 beds are available for treatment.

Moreover, there are 554 ICU facilities in the country and 263 ICU beds are available for the treatment of novel coronavirus infected patients in the country. There are 12,896 oxygen cylinders, 525 high-flow nasal cannula and 342 oxygen concentrator available across the country. The virus has killed 1,006,868 people globally and infected 33,574,347 so far.
