Three million doses of Moderna vaccine from the United States arrived in Dhaka under the COVAX facility today.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen received the vaccines at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this evening.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malik, US Charge d’Affaires in Bangladesh JoAnne Wagner, Senior Secretary of Health Services Division Lokman Hossain Miah, and other senior officials of Bangladesh government were also present.

This consignment is in addition of the first one of 2.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine early July. US had also supplied 1 lakh Pfizer vaccines earlier.

The vaccines are part of US President Joe Biden’s commitment to donate at least 80 million doses from the US’ vaccine supply to the world.

He also committed to allocate 500 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine for distribution by COVAX to countries around the world.

Altogether, Bangladesh has so far received 5.5 million (55 lakhs) doses of Moderna vaccine from the United States and more vaccine doses from the US are likely to arrive in coming months
